FAQs

Are you a school or pre-school/kindergarten?

Though the word “school” is in our name, we are NOT a licensed pre-school or daycare.  We are a nature immersion program rooted in Forest School traditions and closely follow the Forest School educational philosophy. Our program is meant to be an extra enrichment program to your current home-school or traditional pre-school/kindergarten.

What is a forest school?

Simply put, forest schools are education environments that have no walls! They are fully outside and typically include large amounts of free play in natural areas. To read more about forest schools, visit these links.

What do you do if there is rain or a thunderstorm?

There is a common saying in forest school… “There’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing!”  Children will be required to have rain gear and programs will continue as usual for rain. However, if severe thunderstorms are predicted, class for the day will need to be cancelled. If a thunderstorm starts unexpectedly during the program, students will be taken to a safe location on site until the storm has passed or parents are contacted to pick up students.

My child has needs that may need extra assistance. Are they able to still come?

Feel free to send us an email to discuss this with us. While our instructors do not have training for working with any special populations, we may be able to accommodate depending on the needs of the child. If a child has needs that require one on one assistance, the child may still come with a caregiver to accompany them.

Does my child need to be potty trained?

Yes, all children who attend our programs need to be potty trained, unless they have needs that require a caregiver to attend with them. Instructors can provide assistance but students need to reliably communicate their needs and use the bathroom without regular incidents.

What will you do for a bathroom?

Composting toilets will be in private areas on site for children to use as needed. A portable potty will be brought along during our excursions in the forest.

Are your instructors trained in CPR and first aid?

Yes, all lead instructors are trained in CPR and first aid.

Can I get on a waitlist?

During the open enrollment period, once you have filled out the enrollment form and paid your deposit, your child will be considered for the program – a phone interview and site visit will be conducted. Once all spots are filled for the semester, we will not accept any more students but can add you to a waitlist in case a spot opens up.  If no spot opens up by the start of the semester, your deposit will be refunded.
